Ne dit-on pas : “ce qui ne vous tue pas vous rend plus fort” ? Appliqué à Candiria, cet adage ressemblerait plutôt à ceci : “ce qui ne vous tue pas vous change radicalement la vie” ! Car pour avoir frôler la mort suite à un grave accident de van dont la front cover est là pour en témoigner (sorte de message expiatoire ?), le quintette a ré-enjambé les rives du Styx pour finalement délivrer leur album le plus personnel et intime.
Mélangeant à tour de rôles tous types de genres tels que le Hardcore, le Jazz, le Hip Hop, le Ragga, Candiria a donc pour particularité de pratiquer une fusion subtile entre tous ces courants musicaux, d’où une richesse qui émerge de leurs arrangements. Il en ressort donc dix compositions, (ou devrais-je plutôt dire neuf puisque la piste N° 7 n’est qu’un interlude Hip Hop dont je me garderais bien d’apporter un quelconque jugement qui n’aurait pas sa place dans cette chronique), qui sonnent tantôt planantes tantôt plus musclées, le tout servi par une production propre et aérée !
Le groupe part également dans des délires Jazzy, comme sur le titre « The Rutherford Experiment », le meilleur morceau à mon sens, une invitation au voyage assez envoûtante qui démontre tout le sens du groove et de l’improvisation mis en exergue par le quintette.
L’utilisation de riffs aériens, le recours à des plans de batterie syncopés y sont sûrement pour quelque chose !
Candiria a même la chance de posséder en son sein un chanteur en la personne de Carley Coma, lequel affirme justesse et sûreté au micro : il peut aussi bien passer de cris aigus à des voix plus rauques, faire preuve de passages plus introspectifs, ou encore utiliser des phrasés typique Hip Hop et Ragga !! Un frontman au registre vocal large et complet qui assure en partie le succès de l’album.
Bien que ce genre de « Metal multi-genres» ne soit pas mon genre de prédilection, j’avoue aussi ne pas avoir eu l’impression de perdre mon temps en écoutant leur dernier album.
