On peut s’étonner de la sortie d’un live alors que la discographie du groupe ne contient que 2 albums. Cependant, la paire Billy Greer / Mike Slamer nous ayant habitué à la qualité, nous sommes plutôt confiants.
Et, une nouvelle fois, le groupe ne nous déçoit pas. On retrouve un savoir faire qui se traduit par une propreté d’interprétation qui fait froid dans le dos. Pourtant il n’y a rien d’ostentatoire, aucun bourrinage gratuit ; simplement le groupe sait véhiculer des émotions à travers ses chansons bien ficelées. On s’avale donc ces 12 titres avec un plaisir naturel. Il serait difficile de ne pas apprécier “You Cross The Line” dont le refrain a été légèrement modifié, le groovie “Sin City”ou la remarquable progression de “Winds Of War”.
On remarquera cependant que cet enregistrement ne restitue pas complètement la personnalité des morceaux. En effet, on avait pu admirer la qualité des arrangements qui apportaient aux albums studio une étonnante variété, or ici les conditions du live ont pour conséquence de donner plus de linéarité à l’ensemble.
On regrettera aussi que le public ne soit pas plus présent. Car, hormis quelques applaudissements entre les pistes, ce n’est pas l’hystérie.
En plus des 12 morceaux live, SEVENTH KEY nous offre 3 inédits studios. “Remember You” n’avait clairement pas ça place sur les albums précédents (on aurait pu s’en passer ici aussi !). “The Storm Rages On” bénéficie d’un phrasé de guitare très sympa même s’il s’agit d’un morceau plutôt moyen. Par contre avec le Blues/Metal de “Love Train” on retrouve le meilleur du groupe.
Au final, ce Live In Atlanta nous réserve une agréable écoute même si l’on peut se demander à qui il se destine.
