Désormais signés sur le label Français DeadSun Records, les Grecs d’ETHEREAL BLUE formés en 2002 sortent leur premier véritable album, Black Heart Process. A la croisée entre la Nouvelle vague de Death Metal Suédois et le Black Metal, cet album cherche à élever un univers propre à lui-même. Les riffs de guitares sont typés Black Metal mais agencés rythmiquement comme du Death, avec des claviers en arrière qui viennent donner la touche Symphonique et Atmosphérique à l’ensemble. On pense immédiatement à des groupes comme CRADLE OF FILTH, mais en fouillant un peu on se trouvera plus du coté de DARK TRANQUILLITY ou encore ORPHANED LAND. Les voix y sont pour beaucoup. L’une criée, l’autre chanté, dans un genre plus progressif, le tout pour un rendu assez facile d’approche qui ravira les novices dans le genre. Cependant on est loin d’atteindre le nirvana. Les morceaux se font vite répétitifs, même si certaines mélodies sont accrocheuses. Les changements entre les deux voix sont complètement téléphonés et on s’ennuie rapidement. Heureusement que certains plans rythmiques viennent mettre un peu de pêche a tout ça, car en écoutant les voix on aurait vite fait de s’endormir.
Vous l’aurez compris, cet album est assez linéaire. Par exemple, première chanson, après une intro clavier/voix un peu kitsch, un excellent riff Black prend la place et est rapidement rejoint par une batterie expéditive. Puis au bout d’un cours moment ça tombe littéralement à plat. C’est vraiment dommage. Cette puissance n’est pas assez conservée, et les passages mielleux en son clair et voix chantée ne font qu’accentuer cette monotonie. Et l’album est comme ça tout le long, une succession de bonnes idées, de bons feelings qui finalement sont mal utilisés. A vouloir faire sonner l’ensemble d’une certaine manière, ils cloisonnent leur potentiel… Il va falloir revoir le « groove » et la folie à la hausse.
