La première pile atomique française s’appelait ZOE, alors pas étonnant qu’un groupe ayant pris ce nom ait pour priorité l’énergie ! Ces nouveaux venus de la scène hexagonale, bercés par MOTORHEAD et AC/DC, ont décidé de nous laver les oreilles au vitriol.
Make It Burning renferme une multitude d’influences puisées dans les 70’s et early 80’s dont il est une synthèse réussie. Derrière l’âpreté du style, on sent que la culture musicale du groupe est conséquente et l’exercice difficile qui consiste à se reposer sur le passé pour sortir un nouvel album est réussi. On peut penser à MOTORHEAD, à KYUSS ou a QUEEN OF THE STONE AGE, mais on perçoit aussi de nombreuses autres influences plus discrètes et plus fines.
La musique est directe, crue, sans artifice. Ici pas de grosse production, pas d’arrangement compliqué, pas de chant féminin ni d’orchestration. On se prend les décibels dans la gueule, ça passe ou ça casse. Il faut donc aimer ce côté Rock cradingue qui sent la bière, le Whisky et l’arrière salle d’un club enfumé. Si c’est votre cas, alors ZOE ne peut que séduire avec cet album de qualité.
Make It Burning ne fera certainement pas beaucoup avancer l’histoire du Rock ; on n’y trouve aucune nouveauté, mais il aura le mérite de nous apporter une grosse demi-heure de tapage de pied et de bougeage de tête. C’est appréciable.
Un album à l’image de sa pochette : un coup de poing dans la tronche, tout simplement.
