GENITAL GRINDER (FRA) - Compulsive Severing Art (2007)

En 1996, GENITAL GRINDER existait sous le nom de ABYSS GATE et ses influences et son style étaient plutôt du côté du Thrash. Au bout de quelques mois, le groupe décide de durcir le ton et s’oriente vers un Death/Thrash proche des premiers opus de SEPULTURA.
L’évolution ne s’arrête pas là, car le groupe cherche quelque chose de beaucoup plus brutal, et c’est durant l’été 1997, qu’il change de nom pour adopter GENITAL GRINDER. Son style est devenu du Death/Grind inspiré par CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE ou encore BRUTAL TRUTH.
Il faut attendre des séries de concerts et encore 2 ans pour que GENITAL GRINDER propose ses 2 premières démos : Postmortem et Ettak At Snad. C’est leur troisième démo : Cadaverous Orgasm qui leur permet de rentrer en contact avec Adipocère Records qui leur permet de sortir leur premier album : Genital Grinder.
Même si pour certain, ce groupe est considéré comme juste un projet car certains de ses membres font parti d’autres groupes beaucoup plus connus comme Seb (chants-guitare joue dans ABORTED, BALROG, et ex-GARWALL…), GENITAL GRINDER est une groupe à part entière. Sa signature avec Rapture Music lui permet de sortir son second opus : Compulsive Severing Art qui sera disponible le 1er juin 2007.
Bien que leur premier opus fût d’une furie assez violente, il comportait une bonne dose d’humour. Compulsive Severing Art lui, est beaucoup plus sérieux, d’une violence sonore et visuelle qui peut heurter la sensibilité des plus jeunes. Cet opus est mieux maîtrisé, plus mature comme en témoigne « Teacher » qui ouvre le disque tout en brutalité ! La production y est aussi pour quelque chose : le son est lourd, compact et pachydermique !
Le style de GENITAL GRINDER est sans concession : c'est du rapide, technique et par moments ça part dans tous les sens sans pour autant être désordonné (« Inner Urethral Bleeding »). Dommage que le groupe n’ait pas cherché à jouer plus sur les variations de tempo : ce Compulsive Severing Art aurait été encore plus percutant.
Grâce à ses riffs d’aciers aux tempos souvent effrénés, au hurleur vomissant et une bonne dose de maturité, on a un album bougrement efficace, facilement assimilable et qui donne à chaque fois envie de remuer la tête dans tous les sens !
