Tous les groupes essayent plus ou moins de se démarquer de leurs confrères afin d’attirer l’attention sur eux. Et tous les moyens sont bons. On les mélange même parfois. Ainsi, GOAT THE HEAD use d’un nom de style pour le moins original, Primal Caveman Death Metal, dont ils doivent être les seuls représentants dans l’univers, connu ou inconnu, ainsi que de déguisements primitifs et minimalistes (peau de bête et autres pagnes des montagnes). On se voit déjà presque en train de devoir se retourner pour ne pas être surpris par un Ron Perlman poilu et déchainé, la bite à l’air et en l’air, qui souhaiterait assouvir ses besoins bestiaux par des voies imprudentes.
Pour autant, on ne peut pas dire que la musique de GOAT THE HEAD se différencie d’autres groupes de Death Metal. Sur le forme, c’est bien du Death et j’aurai beaucoup de mal à expliquer le côté cavernicole. Pourtant, cela se laisse écouter, sans rien révolutionner. Les gars ont de bonnes idées, pas vraiment originales, mais ils les appliquent avec volonté et rigueur. Le chant guttural est vraiment exquis et on aimerait bien lui payer une bouteille entière de solution médicinale propre à expectorer. Il n’y a que sur « Simian Supremacy » qu’on se retrouve avec des essais assez infructueux pour avoir une voix qui pourrait ressembler à quelque chose d’un minimum civilisé. Ça surprend mais on croit plus en des primates qui singeraient quelques humanoïdes qu’en un réel effort de langage structuré. « Beast Man » et « Blood (Armed Evolution) » possèdent tous les deux des rythmiques intéressantes et entrainantes, peut-être un peu plus évoluées que les autres. Sur la fin de « Heinous Hand », on sent l’influence de l’évolution. C’est presque civilisé et mélodique. Comme une porte qui s’ouvrirait pour que le groupe perde ses poils et ses grognements. Pourtant, avec « Darwinian Minions », l’espoir retombe en flèche. C’était un leurre, une arnaque ! Aucune évolution n’est possible pour cette espèce. Après reste à savoir si elle saura survivre dans cette jungle impitoyable.
