Formation d’origine Française crée en 1998 par I.Luciferia, REVERENCE nous présente sa démo Industrial Mental Concept. Cet album contient ainsi sept morceaux de Black Metal aux sonorités résolument Indus et Ambiant.
S’agissant d’une démo, celle-ci souffre d’un son passablement confus où l’on a du mal à extirper les lignes de basse trop peu mises en avant avec en prime une batterie mixée en retrait. Le mixage s’avère donc plutôt décevant. Cependant, outre les considérations en rapport à la qualité du son, on sent nettement que le combo Français a osé prendre des risques en ouvrant son album par une intro acoustique instrumentale suivie d’un morceau Black mid-tempo mélodique de plus de dix minutes !
Les ambiances et les compositions créées sont convenables, le groupe ne manquant pas de talent. Les riffs sont pour la plupart efficaces, sans effets de style superflus. Les titres «Experimental Suicide Order» ou le titre éponyme se détachent aisément des autres plages de la démo.
On retrouve énormément de passages Ambiant et Indus tout au long de l’opus, ce qui a cependant pour effet de briser la fluidité et l’enchaînement des sept pistes ici présentes. D’ailleurs, les morceaux sont assez fastidieux.
Il semblerait que le projet de ce Industrial Mental Concept ait été trop lourd et trop ambitieux pour les épaules de REVERENCE. Là où un groupe comme BLUT AUS NORD a réussi à la perfection le mariage du Black Metal et des atmosphères industrielles sombres et froides (cf. The Work Which Transforms God), le chemin paraît un peu plus jalonné d’embûches pour REVERENCE.
Le groupe ne devrait pas pour autant tirer sa révérence, en persévérant, un bel avenir lui semble promis !
