Voilà maintenant cinq années que "The Umbersun - Au Tréfonds Des Ténèbres", dernier volet de la trilogie "L'Office Des Ténèbres", est paru. Depuis, aucune nouvelle d'ELEND qui s'est montré on ne peut plus discret quant à son travail. Et c'est avec un réel plaisir que nous retrouvons ce groupe franco-autrichien de néo-classique sombre à travers le premier extrait "Winds Devouring Men" d'une nouvelle trilogie à paraître. Cette période latente a donc permis au groupe de composer en toute tranquillité dans leur propre studio des titres en quantité suffisante pour combler également les deux albums à venir.
Avant tout, on peut affirmer que l'approche musicale a sensiblement changé bien que nous restons toujours dans les vapeurs d'un univers tragique et obscur. Dans un premier temps, l'apport de nouveaux musiciens au noyau (composé du français Alexandre Iskandar Hasnawi et de l'autrichien Renaud Tschirner) a donné un second souffle au groupe par le biais de toute une panoplie d'instruments (clavecin, harpe, trompette, trombone, cor, violons ...), ainsi qu'un son plus industriel revigorant l'ensemble d'une énergie nouvelle et inédite.
Ensuite, dans l'optique d'épurer la musique, en la rendant plus simple et moins répétitive, afin de gagner l'essentiel du message, la longueur des titres a diminué et les mélodies sont apparues par la même occasion plus accessibles. Les hurlements jadis omniprésents n'existent plus, remplacés par un chant clair travaillé. Mais la différence majeure réside dans le fait qu'auparavant, c'était le texte qui orientait la musique alors qu'aujourd'hui la logique musicale est mise en avant. Mais encore faut-il bien le faire. Pour ce qui est du concept de l'album, tout tourne autour du symbole des vents qui possèdent plusieurs significations. Ainsi, le thème du voyage est mêlé à celui de l'attente et du doute.
A la recherche constante de nouvelles formes d'expression dans le but d'éviter de se répéter, ELEND, dont les membres ont tous une formation classique, a su imposer une nouvelle identité dramatique et toucher l'émotion pure à l'image de DEAD CAN DANCE au travers de témoignages sombres et introspectifs.
