Force est de constater que quand on croit connaître un genre de musique, certains groupes nous prouvent le contraire en offrant du renouveau. C'est le cas de MORNING.. Contrairement à certains groupes comme PORCUPINE TREE ou AYREON qui nous immergent dans une atmosphère planante ; MORNING apporte une base nettement plus Heavy dû à une guitare (Martijin Brauwers et Bas Rensen) bien présente en fond sonore. La mélodie est presque essentiellement apportée par le clavier (Stijn Bannier). A cela se rajoutent par intermittence des sons "neufs", rarement utilisés de façon généralisée : carillons (« Stop Drawing »), choeurs (« When Shadows Dance In Light ») et orgues « Kill The Silence ». On se croirait presque dans une église.
La voix lyrique de Saskia Van Heugten étonnera. Au lieu de chanter dans des tons hauts comme on pourrait s'attendre (Sharon Den Adel de WITHIN TEMPTATION ou Simone Simons d'EPICA), elle chante dans une sonorité relativement neutre. Cela n'enlève rien au charme qui s'en dégage. Elle s'aventure un cour instant dans un ton plus écorché créant un résultat plus Doom Metal qui n'est pas pour déplaire (« Captured By The Colour Of Faith »). Elle s'efface à de nombreuses reprises pour laisser s'exprimer pleinement le synthé dans des parties instrumentales très riches en registres variés. Ça nous entraîne à travers une véritable symphonie. Avec une alternance presque ostentatoire entre guitare/basse et synthé dans « You're Setting Fire » ou des accords de guitare assez calme en guise d'intro dans « Kill The Silence ». La batterie s'est faite discrète pour Hour Of Joy. C'est uniquement dans « Perception Of Feelings » où on la sent plus présente. J'aurai aimé l'entendre un tout petit peu plus.
Cet opus est tout simplement unique de part son mélange assez inhabituel dans les instruments et la composition. Pour un premier album, bravo!
