ZUUL FX (FRA) - Live In The Ass (2009)

ZUUL FX. Ce nom sonne comme une invasion extraterrestre. Et pourtant, ce groupe est bien de notre planète, de France même. Ce qui ne l’empêche pas aujourd’hui d’envahir nos chaumines avec un CD couplé d’un DVD, Live In The Ass (je laisserai la traduction aux puristes). On peut faire tous les reproches que l’on veut au groupe, on ne pourra jamais lui enlever le fait d’être taillé pour la scène, son élément. Il suffit de les avoir vu jouer une fois pour comprendre tout de suite que les membres sont chez eux et que leurs morceaux ne sont pas à leur place sur des CDs mais qu’il leur faut de la sueur, des cris et de l’adrénaline pour exister complètement. Du coup, quoi de mieux que cette galette live pour les contenter et leur rendre justice ?
Passons tout de suite sur le DVD. Il y aura le concert ainsi qu’un documentaire sur le groupe. Ne l’ayant pas visionné, je ne pourrai rien en dire.
Par contre, le CD je l’ai bien écouté. Et, comme je le disais précédemment, les morceaux prennent vraiment toute leur ampleur dans ce contexte live. Et comme la production est impeccable, on a là la qualité des morceaux, mais aussi toute la puissance du concert. On entend bien aussi le public, avec lequel Zuul parle assez souvent, histoire que la communion soit totale. Par contre, les samples sont trop en retrait. Au niveau du son, c’est la seule chose regrettable. Je ne citerai pas de morceau plus qu’un autre, les productions de ZUUL FX sont toutes à mettre au même niveau. C’est sûr, on ne frôle pas les cieux de l’originalité, mais c’est carré, terriblement efficace et complètement composé pour la scène. Ça ne peut pas ne pas faire bouger la tête. Les pauses sont là quand il faut, généralement juste avant de repartir pour une bonne dose de patate (nouvelle). Pogo, mosh et autres jumps sont aussi les bienvenus. On notera quand même la reprise de « Demanufacture » de FEAR FACTORY, exécutée à la perfection. On aura aussi le droit à trois chansons bonus (mais pas live), dont une est une reprise de THE BANGLES, « Walk Like An Egyptian ». Connaissant bien cette chanson et l’appréciant, j’ai trouvé que la reprise ne la mettait pas en valeur, mais ce n’était peut-être pas le but. Enfin, il y a quand même de quoi contenter un Obélix au régime sur ce CD.
Je ne suis pas un inconditionnel du groupe, mais ce disque live m’a rappelé la fois où je les avais vu en première partie de L’ESPRIT DU CLAN. Et c’est toujours aussi intéressant sur scène, il n’y a rien à redire là-dessus.
