On m’a longtemps bassiné avec LIVARKAHIL. « Oui, tu verras, c’est génial » ou alors « faut que tu écoutes ça mec, tellement ça tabasse », sont quelques réflexions qui me viennent en tête à l’évocation du nom de ce combo parisien, un pur produit de notre terroir. Il n’y avait pas meilleure occasion pour moi de me confronter à ces jugements que d’en faire l’amère expérience en écrivant pour Signs Of Decay, un second album qu’on annonce « basé sur l’autocratie religieuse ». Pour comprendre de quoi il s’agit, consultons ensemble le Larousse 2011. « Autocratie : Système politique dans lequel le pouvoir est détenu par un seul homme, qui l'exerce en maître absolu. » Ceci étant fait, découvrons dès à présent de quelle façon LIVARKAHIL va matérialiser ce concept en musique.
Première piste, première onde de choc : une introduction. Pas que ce soit quelque chose d’inédit mais son interprétation est remarquable. On y entend des chœurs, façon soulèvement populaire, pas de ceux qu’on entend à l’université d’été du PS, mais plutôt de ceux qui conduisent les participants d’une grande bataille épique à une grande victoire antique. « When Hell Is Near » déboule sur le périf’ et grille la politesse aux autres usagers. On retrouve les chœurs guerriers, accompagnés de riffs saccadés, presque militaires et doublés d’une batterie omnipotente. Il y a quelque chose de solennel ou symbolique dans cette musique. Les ambiances deviennent très vite mystiques, ce qui justifie pleinement la prétention du concept de l’album. Ce dernier étant bien évidement mis en lumière par la poésie des lyrics. Une sensation d’intensité, de chaleur étouffante, austère comme les codes qui dirigent la vie en communauté religieuse, envahit l’auditeur. Le jeu de cordes guitare / basse fonctionne à merveille. Les premières embaument chaque compo d’un parfum détestable, d’une martialité implacable, d’une autorité difficile à contester pendant que les secondes assurent une assise rythmique stable, qui permet aux créations de suivre une certaine cohérence sans se casser la gueule. Cet album est très équilibré, on y trouvera quelques interludes, quelques breaks rythmiques, une jolie diversité vocale aussi. Après, je ne pense pas être le premier à leur dire qu’on a parfois tendance à se rappeler au bon souvenir de BEHEMOTH, sans que ce rapprochement ne soit pour autant péjoratif ou gênant. LIVARKAHIL ne met pas les pieds dans le plat, proposant une diversité sympathique tout en gardant en tête leur fil conducteur, un Death, tantôt mélodique, tantôt brutal mais jamais blagueur. Les apparitions de LYZANXIA sur « Art Of Bleeding » mais surtout de Inrvi (AOSOTH) sur « Heaven Shall Fall » et BST (THE ORDER OF APOLLYON) sur l’éponyme donnent pas mal de coffre aux compositions concernées. Les vocaux d’ « Art Of Bleeding » par exemple, étant assez énormes et résonnant comme des ogives explosant dans une nef de cathédrale. Pas simple de s’en tirer à bon compte après une déflagration de puissance et de mysticisme aussi sauvage. LIVARKAHIL a véritablement joué cartes sur table, et c’est un brelan d’as !
Signs Of Decay, qui ne paie pas de mine comme ça, aura véritablement dépassé mes maigres espérances. Loin des redondances génériques et cycliques du style, les français sont éblouissants d’autonomie et de panache. A vrai dire, j’avais pratiquement oublié la notion de « coup de cœur »…Ce n’est pas trop dire aujourd’hui que ce disque en aura été un. Et un gros !
