De fin du monde il n’y eut point.
Tout du moins pas encore. Alors les prophètes continueront de prophétiser, les oracles racleront leur gorge pour en extirper des avertissements, et les crédules crédibiliseront tous les oiseaux de mauvais augure.
Mais nous sommes toujours là. Debout.
Et prêts à nous consacrer à la seule chose importante qu’il nous reste, au-delà de la compréhension, de l’appréhension, de la mystique et des incohérences comportementales.
Faire la fête.
Bah oui. Faire la fête !!! Après tout, si on doit tous crever, alors autant le faire avec le sourire ! Et pour faire la fête, de quoi à on besoin ?
D’alcool ? Oui possible…De filles ? Oui, c’est évident.
Mais surtout de potes, et de musique !!!
Alors, si ce soir, je vous écris, c’est justement pour vous proposer de festoyer avec des amis à moi, qui reviennent fort avec un Split EP.
OVER THE TOP, c’est la garantie de passer un bon moment. Un moment léger, plaisant, et qui laisse une trace profonde, dont on se souvient encore des mois après. Un peu justement comme ces soirées entre potes qui finissent au bout de la nuit.
Après un premier cinq titres qui m’avait enchanté, les Rochelais reviennent cette fois ci accompagnés des Hollandais de TANTRUM, pour un partage de trois titres chacun.
Et le mélange des deux mondes a quelque chose d’assez savoureux.
D’un côté la Power Pop punkie des OTT, de l’autre l’indie un poil plus sombre de TANTRUM. Mariage complémentaire, association d’enfer, en gros, tout pour passer un moment prospère.
Les trois morceaux d’OVER THE TOP restent bien sur dans la lignée de leur premier effort, et respectent leur volonté de proposer une musique fun, mélodique, énergique, à l’image des meilleurs combos ricains du cru. Et pour peu qu’on ferme les yeux sur leur nationalité, on s’y croirait !
Mais pas fous, nos Rochelais préférés laissent en avant poste un éclaireur aguerri, et ainsi, attaquent les premiers sans nous laisser la possibilité de riposter. Ainsi, « Hellien » et son intro explosive, son refrain qui sent bon les campus américains, et ses guitares mordantes reste une entrée en matière parfaite pour commencer la dégustation du cocktail nouveau et frais.
Mid tempo plombé, « Cougie Car » est parfait pour temporiser les débats et hurler d’un seul chœur. Le genre d’hymne qu’on entonne la tête penchée, le verre levé, et le regard embrumé.
Quant à « Guts N’Bruises », c’est évidemment un brûlot diabolique… Emmené par la voix malicieuse de Nico, drivé par des guitares qui occupent l’espace tout en laissant à une basse brillante sa place, c’est un hit pour le moins, mais surtout, de quoi nous laisser sur notre faim après seulement moins d’un quart d’heure…
TANTRUM est évidemment d’un autre genre. Moins léger, plus volontiers feutré et nuancé. Mais les Hollandais jouent crânement leur va tout, et nous servent sur un plateau des sonorités qui rappellent volontiers GIRLS AGAINST BOYS, voire SHIHAD (« 9 »), pour cette façon de mettre en avant une rythmique déstabilisante, sans pour autant rester pataud, mais toujours avec une basse pesante et gluante (« Hands Off »), le tout en gardant ce petit côté « bancal » qui les rend si sympathiques (« Grounded »).
Bon, OK sur ce coup là, je me suis peut être un peu laissé emporter par ma partialité… Mais que voulez vous, moi j’aime les mecs francs, honnêtes, qui ne vendent pas ce qu’ils n’ont pas en stock.
Et puis, j’ai envie de bonne humeur. De légèreté.
Alors du coup, j’ai tendance à retourner voir des potes, avec plaisir.
Et dans la vie, c’est important d’avoir des potes pas toc comme OVER THE TOP.
