Wesh gros. Bien ou bien ? T'as capté le dernier skeud d'ATTILA ? Avec les deux nanas qui se roulent des pelles. Bandant hein ? J'ai trop l'seum que pour Projet X y z'aient pas choisi c'te bête de CD pour faire la BO. En plus y a le logo de "Parental Advisory", ma mère est trop overchoquée du slip. Elle préfère SLIPKNOT, c'est moins ouf rythmiquement.
Dire qu'un tel monologue n'a rien d'un écrit de science-fiction est finalement ce qui est le plus effrayant. J'aurais préféré que Ray Bradbury, du temps où il était en meilleure forme qu'un topinambour, pète un câble et se mette à parler de Deathcore. Hélas, il s'agit bel et bien d'ATTILA, de son Hardco-Deathcore aseptisé, de son quatrième album dont on n'a pas parlé au moment de sa parution en 2011, en tout cas pas ici. La sortie prochaine (le 25 juin 2013) d'About That Life, leur cinquième opus, servira de prétexte pour remettre les pendules à l'heure et évoquer une œuvre qui n'aura pas fait date.
Procrastiner est une chose que je n'aime pas faire, surtout quand il s'agit d'un fardeau. Parler d'ATTILA, c'est rappeler qu'un mec a balancé un jour "chacun sa croix", que cette expression est rentrée dans les mœurs et que mon passé de fan de Deathcore me revient aujourd'hui en pleine face. Pour resituer un peu le contexte, il faut savoir que ce Outlawed est sorti un peu plus d'un an après un Rage brouillon et que cette proximité dans l'effort dessert des Géorgiens pas franchement touchés par la grâce divine. Expéditif et bancal, cet album s'affirme au fil des minutes comme un écho grossier à Rage, lui-même répondant irrespectueusement à l'impoli Soundtrack To A Party de 2008. Pourtant, ATTILA a quelques atouts non-négligeables dans son baluchon. Du groove, du dynamisme, une idée de base qui est d'équilibrer sa musique entre un Hardcore viril et un Deathcore plus efféminé ainsi qu'un chanteur dont le débit est assurément un plus, même s'il a tendance à évoquer trop souvent un flow kalachnikov inhérent au Rap. Certains morceaux comme un "Another Round" mélodique et entrainant ou un "Smokeout" appliqué et généreux peuvent donner le sourire mais la plupart du temps, c'est indiscutablement la soupe à la grimace. ATTILA est l'archétype du groupe américain de base avec son riffing épileptique, ses breakdowns prévisibles, ses parties mélo-larmoyantes et sa doublette vocale screamo-gutturale qui se répond constamment avec insolence. Heureusement, le chant clair nous est épargné. "Holler At Ya Boy" reflète ce manque de maturité, à l'instar d'un "Light Me Up" peu convaincant, d'un "Sex, Drugs & Violence" dont le nom résume bien des choses, d'un "White Lightning" qui se perd sur la fin dans des schémas électroniques incompréhensibles ou d'un "Payback" qui s'érige en caricature du style.
Peu de moments accrocheurs pour beaucoup d'ennui, tel est le rapport proposé par Outlawed. Jouant sur une provoc à deux balles, sur la fougue de ses musiciens, sur le dos d'une mode qui peine à se démoder, ATTILA a finalement bien compris les rouages du système et s'épanouit dans ce mouvement en causant de nombreux dommages cérébraux. Si ce n'est pas le pire album qui existe, loin s'en faut, c'est n'est pas non plus un indispensable. Et se réjouir de sa très courte durée est au final révélateur de la pertinence musicale d'une telle proposition.
