Aphea... Apha... non, rien à faire, je suis toujours obligé de m'y reprendre un paquet de fois avant de pouvoir prononcer correctement le patronyme AEPHANEMER. J'espère avoir moins de peine à rentrer dans le Death mélodique instrumental de monsieur Hamiche qui avec ses petites mains a réussi à monter son projet. Après m'être délecté d'un certains As The Ocean Burns de NEMOST, c'est au tour de Know Thyself de passer à la casserole. Vu mon enthousiasme face à la scène Death mélodique française, j'ai le sentiment que cet EP risque de passer comme une lettre à la poste.
Dès les premières notes de "Resilience", j'ai su que cette production allait me plaire. C'est pas trop lourd, ça fait remuer, et c'est bien calé ! Entre les solos de toute beauté, le piano envoûtant, ou encore les orchestrations de très bonne facture ("Alive"), Know Thyself est un EP sérieux, et qui impose un certain respect.
En ce qui concerne l'absence de paroles, deux choix s'offrent à vous. Soit vous aimez, soit vous n'aimez pas. Avec du recul, on constatera que les instruments arrivent dans l'ensemble à nous faire oublier cet élément. Mais ! J'avoue que de temps en temps, je ne peux m'empêcher d'imaginer ce que donneraient ces morceaux enchanteurs avec une voix féminine sirupeuse derrière. Le problème, c'est qu'on parle quand même de Death mélodique là. C'est clair que c'est pas censé être du ENTOMBED, mais faut pas non plus que ce soit DELAIN !
Or, Lorsqu'on penche une oreille attentive aux pistes de cet EP, on a parfois l'impression d'entendre une production de Metal mélodique sucrée. A titre purement personnel, la légèreté de certaines pistes ("Who You Really Are") ne me dérange aucunement, bien au contraire d'ailleurs. Mais je pourrais en revanche comprendre que le manque de tripes puisse en rebuter plus d'un.
Et pour ceux qui se demandent si j'ai bientôt fini de chercher des choses à redire concernant Know Thyself, je vous rassure mes amis, j'ai bel et bien terminé. Car pour le coup, cette production reste un excellent feu d'artifice qui ne demandera qu'à faire battre votre cœur. Si la musique d'AEPHANEMER semble accessible aux premiers abords, elle ne demeure pas simpliste pour autant.
J'ignore quel morceau vous conseiller en particulier, dans la mesure où chacun d'entre eux est unique et vous fera voyager à sa manière. Et lorsque la déferlante "Inner Storm" parvient à nos tympans et qu'on constate que c'est la dernière grosse piste de l'EP, on ne pourra que verser une petite larmichette à l'idée de se quitter en si bon chemin. Mais comme on dit, mieux vaut avoir vécu un amour, aussi court soit-il, que de ne jamais l'avoir connu.
Et aujourd'hui, je le dit sans aucune honte, Know Thyself m'a fait chavirer le cœur. Pendant une demi-heure, j'ai été plongé dans un monde magnifique, plein de couleurs pétillantes et pourpres. Si vous avez l'âme sensible à ce genre de production, laissez-moi vous dire que la simple écoute de cet EP vous redonne du courage et de la détermination ! Même s'il peut manquer de puissance par moment, ça n'enlève en rien sa beauté.
Oui je sais, beaucoup dirons que cette production est loin d'être parfaite et trouverons mille reproches à faire. Mais sachez que mes propos ne sont en rien une science exactes. Ils reflètent juste les émotions qui m'ont traversé durant l'écoute de cette production. J'aime la musique, voilà tout. Peut-être que je me fais des illusions un peu trop facilement ? Peut-être que je ne vois pas la réalité en face ? C'est fort probable. Mais parfois, c'est tellement mieux de rêver.
