1301-1235 av. J.C. : Ramsès II, reconnu comme ayant été le plus grand Souverain du Nouveau Royaume d’Egypte grâce notamment à ses contributions culturelles, à ses constructions en tous genres et à sa grande aura auprès de son peuple régna pendant plus de soixante ans à la tête de son vaste empire. Le monarque aurait sûrement désiré connaître Karl Sanders et ses trois grands prêtres provenant du delta du Nil. Ainsi, il en aurait peut-être fait ses musiciens officiels au sein de la cour du Royaume !
Le quartette nous porte encore un nouveau coup d’une violence inouie ! Le groupe évolue indéniablement dans une catégorie à part, où la concurrence s’avère quasi inexistante. En effet, depuis le mythique Black Seeds Of Vengeance et plus de trois ans après le massif In their Darkened Shrines, on peut en conclure qu’avec leur dernier opus en date nous ayons droit à une trilogie dantesque et impériale !
Le combo de Death Metal américain n’en finit pas depuis ses trois derniers albums de réinventer les canons du genre et d’en repousser les limites en matière de brutalité, de technicité mais surtout dans la qualité d’écriture et dans les arrangements des dix pépites ici présentes.
Leur recette ? Un subtil mélange de murs de guitares assassins et de riffs Heavy à la fois tout en n’occultant pas la fureur du Brutal Death, avec des phrasés typiques entre les deux vocalistes du combo américain, K.Sanders et D.Toller-Wade, des rythmiques et autres harmonies terrifiantes, mais surtout un don même de la composition et un sens du riff hors du commun. Détail non négligeable, les deux guitaristes rivalisent de virtuosité et de technicité de la six cordes dans leur genre en plaquant des solos particulièrement raffinés. Si, par ailleurs, nous pouvions éprouver quelques réserves quant au remplacement du batteur T.Laureano par G.Kollias du groupe Nightfall, les doutes sont vite dissipés par la facilité et la précision des claques portées sur les cymbales et le pilonnage des peaux du drum kit ! Les parties épiques font comme d’habitude appel à d’anciens instruments orientaux d’époque et sont toujours de rigueur, l’ensemble réussissant à créer la mystique des morceaux estampillés de la marque Nile. Ainsi, les passages homériques et les parties instrumentales donnent une couleur unique aux compositions, pour le plus grand bonheur de nos sens…
Les dix morceaux, parmi lesquels “Sacrifice Unto Sebek”, “Lashed To The Slave Stick” et le magistral “Annihilation Of The Wicked” sont tellement riches d’ingéniosité, de trouvailles que l’on est vraiment précipité plus de 2000 ans dans le passé !
Ne boudons notre plaisir, le digipack est particulièrement bien chiadé et visuellement attirant, avec en prime un beau livret contenant les paroles ainsi que la signification des paroles ! En prime les explications de l’écriture de chacun des titres, tout cela fournit par K.Sanders, qui nous honore de quelques anecdotes particulièrement intéressantes !
L’empire de Nile n’a pas fini de conquérir les terres arides et dévastées du Royaume Death Metal… et nous cède avec « Annihilation Of The Wicked » leur album le plus oppressant et le plus abouti par la même occasion ! Impressionnant !
