Eine Bier bitte schön! Danke! Un tankard est une chope dans la langue de Shakespeare au cas où quelques-uns d’entre vous se poseraient des questions quant à la signification de cette palabre à la consonance pour le moins exotique. Mais lorsqu’on est fan de Metal, on sait également que ce mot s’applique à un groupe d’allemand bien burinés par le stout qui a fait la promotion de la binouze bien écumante à travers le monde : TANKARD.
Ce sont les amateurs de bière en général et les fans de l’Eintracht Francfort qui vont être particulièrement ravi de ce retour avec ce treizième opus fraîchement intitulé Thirst, la soif ! Le ton est donné ! Les teutons ont encore soif et les chopes de bière s’apprêtent à couler à flot ! Fondé en 1982 à Francfort, ca ne nous rajeunit pas, le légendaire quartet germain se définit fièrement comme le créateur et le porte étendard du Alcoholic Metal, sous genre ayant pour caractéristiques de baser son image sur l’alcool, sujet que Gerre et ses acolytes maîtrisent à merveille depuis plus de 25 ans. Qui n’a plus en mémoire ces riffs matraqués par une macque dans un coin de sa petite tête ? Responsables d’opus mythiques comme Zombie Attack (1986) et The Morning After (1988) qui en ont impressionné plus d’un, TANKARD fait partie, au même titre qu’ACCEPT, DESTRUCTION ou KREATOR du panthéon métallique d’outre Rhin. Classifié leur Thrash de Metal à la papy serait leur faire offense, bien qu’on sente que le groupe ait conservé sa fougue et une certaine nostalgie musicale spécifique des années 80 ! Dans la construction de ses morceaux pour ce treizième opus à la front cover toujours aussi ignoble et humoristique, marque de fabrique des joyeux drilles germains à l’autodérision facile.
Entrons dans le vif du sujet en s’enquillant une bonne pinte. TANKARD est toujours le même, rien qu’à écouter «Stay Thirsty» qui dépote un maximum, on sent tout de suite le légendaire combo revenir au galop avec son refrain fédérateur qui est là pour nous abreuver de cervoise. Produit par Andy Classen (HOLY MOSES, DEW SCENTED) au Stage One Studio chez nos voisins allemands, l’Andy a su leur redonner une classe sonore qui rend justice à la puissance et à la rapidité d’exécution des dix nouveaux titres de TANKARD. Marque de fabrique bien huilée oblige, TANKARD revient en force avec dix titres bien nerveux faits de refrains catchy et facilement mémorisables. Du Thrash fun fait pour faire la fiesta, des cavalcades de riffs, des chœurs féminins comme suir «When Daddy Comes to Play», des tempi et des rythmiques véloces avec «Zodiac Man» ou bien «G.A.L.O.W.». De plus, les quatre Allemands n’ont rien perdu de leur hargne et de leur humour avec le morceau «My Evil Fart» ! Sous couvert d’humour potache et d’ode à la boisson, TANKARD reste encore une valeur du Thrash Metal à l’ancienne comme on l’aime. Les soli se font discrets et viennent juste embellir les titres sans trop en faire. TANKARD revient en super forme comme quoi, les bonnes vertus sanitaires de la bière sont belles et bien évidentes.
